Theatre: Seaton is known for producing two productions a year. Last fall students of W.L. Seaton’s 27th Street Theatre Company, under the direction of Lana O’Brien, have created an original and stunning new show which tells some of the stories around Canada’s prison camps during the First World War and beyond. After weeks of research, the show focuses on local stories while also delving into stories from across Canada in its telling of this little known history of our region, and country.
The show examines this period of time (1914-1920) from three points of view: those imprisoned, those responsible for the camps from local authorities to the Canadian government, and the citizens of Vernon and their varying points of view.
Music: Our choir and band students will be travelling to Idaho again this year to compete and perform internationally.
Athletics: Seaton continues to excel in athletics. This year our teams competed in various provincial championships.
Clubs: Seaton has a variety of clubs including game groups, the inclusionary club, grad council, and more! Seaton has a climbing gym built into our athletic facilities and hosts the only school climbing club in town! The Climbing Club is currently working on a climbing wall expansion.

Increasing Equity for students and parents:
Continuing to build strong understandings and relationships with our First Nations partners, families, and students
Ensuring clear, open, and effective communication between staff, parents, and students
Recognizing and addressing the needs of Seaton’s diverse learning community
Exploring ways to communicate learning beyond numbers
Accountability
Nurturing individual student accountability:

Measuring accountability through actions, work ethic, work habits, self- assessment, and attendance
Goal 2: Literacy and Numeracy
How do we provide opportunities for students to improve their literacy and numeracy skills?
Increasing students’ Literacy and Numeracy skills
Assessment
Grade 8 students will have 2 opportunities to have a diagnostic literacy assessment administered in September/October and again in April/May.
A designated teacher will lead the construction of a holistic plan and approach to identify areas of growth for students based on the results. Preliminary areas of growth that have been identified include decoding, inferencing and synthesising.
Collaboration
Teachers in cross-curricular areas will work together to assess and analyze the results from the assessment . Growth areas will be identified and a common language created and shared schoolwide for implementation. In-service, Staff meetings and Professional Development will be used to help increase staff capacity to assist the students’ learning needs.
Share writing and reading samples to all staff in order to broaden school-wide awareness about where our students really are academically
Literacy and numeracy instruction needs to extend beyond the English/French and Math classrooms; it should involve interdisciplinary teaching
Interventions
Additional small group literacy and numeracy classes have been programmed for Grade 9 students who are below grade level.
Help students increase how they value printed text in school and increase time spent reading for pleasure during their leisure time.

Students are playing a greater role in their own self assessment of the essential core competencies and curricular competencies. Staff continue to focus on assessment beyond a summative focus. More and more e-portfolios and rubric based performance standards are playing a role in understanding where students are at with their learning.

Taking Action
Community engagement projects
Seaton students regularly connect with the world outside of our school. Whether through class fieldtrips or extra curricular involvements, Seaton students have opportunities to connect learning to the greater community.
Fundraising for opportunities
Music Parents Association and our music students make thousands of pies (from scratch) to support opportunities for students to play a variety of instruments and travel with the band to Idaho and Nationals!
