June 4 Weekly Update

Posted on June 04, 2021

Hello Okanagan Landing Families:  With the tragic news of the Kamloops Residential School discovery last weekend, our school began the week with the flag at half-mast, recognition of the event, and a minute of silence.  You may also have noticed the orange ribbons on our fences.  Students and staff continue to take time to pause and consider the impact of this discovery as well as the impact of the residential school experience on many of our community members.  We continue to focus on kindness, respect, and inclusivity.

We have made it through the latest heatwave and are heading into a cooler weekend.  Thank-you for sending your children to school with hats, water, and sunscreen on.  They were good about seeking out shade when needed and ensuring they stayed hydrated.  I’m sure we’ll have more of the same weather soon enough.

It was nice to see so many students riding their bikes to school during Bike to Work Week.  Many staff members also participated.  Please remember that if you ride to school with your child, we ask everyone to walk their wheels from the roads below and above the school.  This keeps our schoolgrounds safe for walkers and riders alike.

The next PAC meeting is this Tuesday, June 8 at 6:30 pm.  A ZOOM invite will be sent home soon.  This is the last PAC meeting of the year.  We are very thankful for the many parents who take the time to attend these meetings and also to the parents who have kept our pizza days going – Melanie Ruehle and Melissa Ackert. We look forward to more parent involvement during the school next year as things get back to “normal.”

Our Sports Days are coming up this week:  Primaries (k-3) on Thursday and Intermediates (4-7) on Friday.

As the end of the year draws near, please let the school know if you are planning on moving over the summer.  This information helps plan for class placements and staffing.  Thank-you.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
