Hillview Elementary is the learning center for 411 students in Kindergarten to Grade 7. Located in a rural setting, our school has been described as having a warm country feeling. We have 17 classrooms, a vibrant library, learning support center, aboriginal welcome room, gym and music room. We are supported by a very active parent group and volunteers from the community.

Assessments and observations of student learning have identified reading as an area for intervention.
Results of PM Benchmarks, WCRA, Report Cards, FSAs and classroom teacher observations are used to identify needs and plan for instruction.
Our focus is on our students that are Emerging in Reading.
Our team includes: literacy intervention teacher, classroom teacher, school based resource teacher, CEAs, and administrators.

With consultation with our district VP of Early Learning, we were introduced to a program to develop phonemic awareness: Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program. Jen Friessen worked with our SBRTs and some of our classroom teachers to learn how to use the program.

We used the screeener to assess our grade 1 students in June. We will use the results to identify the areas our students are lacking in skill development. In addition to the June PM data, the team will determine which students will require phonological intervention, LLI intervention, or classroom based intervention.
