BX Elementary was named after the Barnard Express, the first transportation company in British Columbia in the 1800’s. The area was the exchange point for the stagecoach horses.
We are considered a semi-rural K-7 school and projected to have 465 students in the 2021/2022 school year. We are a large elementary school for the Vernon School District.
Our school continues to go through a major expansion and renovation. Our new addition will be fully completed by September 2021. Renovations to the original part of our school will continue throughout the 2021/2022 school year.
Our school district values the Communicating Student Learning assessment and reporting process. This system allows students to set a goal for themselves in October during parent conferences. Students work on their goals throughout the school year and formally revisit them during spring parent conferences.
BX School is used to working in a collaborative environment amongst the staff, students and parents. In the past, our school was highly involved in district sports, clubs and music programs. Our plan is to redevelop our past practices once our school district is able to move away from the current pandemic plan.

Shared Inquiry
Staff will collaborate twice a month during our designated collaboration times as well as informally throughout the weeks to support our vision of making a difference in the outcomes of our students. We will continually ask the questions “Are we making enough of a difference” and “How do we know?” Positive changes the outcomes of our students is paramount.
Building Community
At BX building a caring community with Cooperation, Achievement, Respect, Responsibility, Enthusiasm and Safety is our mission. We continually refer to our BX Cares Behavior Matrix and reinforce the positive values that make our school a wonderful place to learn. Our PAC and parent community is extremely supportive and shares our BX values alongside the staff and students.
