Superintendent Rogers Announces Retirement

Posted on October 16, 2020

Superintendent Joe Rogers announced his retirement, effective July 31, 2021, to the Board of Education.  After 27 years with the Vernon School District, Superintendent Rogers has provided the Board with sufficient lead time to recruit and hire a new superintendent who will lead the Board in the next strategic plan shaping the future for the district.

Board Chair Robert Lee said “It is with mixed feelings that I inform the public that Mr. Joe Rogers, Superintendent of Schools for School District #22 (Vernon), will retire at the end of this school year.”

Chair Lee added “It has been my personal pleasure, as it has been for all trustees and staff, to have worked along with Joe as the district progressed and improved. Joe’s leadership has focused on our students, schools and staff, making School District #22 a great place to learn.”

Superintendent Rogers is a valuable leader and his experience will be missed.  During his 27 years with SD #22 he has been a Vice principal, Principal, Director of Instruction and is currently in his 8th year as Superintendent. He has also been the Director of the Thompson Okanagan Superintendents’ Association, a BC School Superintendents board member and served on the Provincial Learning Advisory Committee. Locally Mr. Rogers has been on the Boys and Girls Club Advisory Committee, has received the Rick Hansen Community Difference Maker Award, and is a Champion of the Child Award Recipient.
